I hate lotus notes.
It hogs all my memory and doesn't let me do anything else. I wish "reading mails" was the sole purpose in my life. Why can't they let me use Thunderbird?
I have developed this extreme dislike in anything to do with mails. Thanks to Lotus Notes.
Every time I kill that Application I get this eVil grin on my face.

Thunderbird?..are u crazy?...it chews up my memory everytime...go back to pico or mutt
Does it talk any special protocol to get your mails? If that is plain ol' IMAP/POP nothing should prevent you from switching MUA. Even if it talks something weird, you can probably find a "nnlotus.el" somewhere ... :-)
If memory is your problem, maybe you should "less /var/spool/mail/evil" ...

I remember Alok having trouble using Lotus notes when he was at IBM. I don't think it speaks IMAP. Vendor lock in.
